Friendly Reminder – Leash Laws and Pet Waste Responsibilities

Dear Residents,

To help keep our neighborhood safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone, we would like to remind all residents of the applicable leash laws and pet waste requirements within the City of Houston and Harris County.

Leash Requirements

For the safety of residents, visitors, and pets, dogs must be kept under their owner’s direct physical control when outside of their home or fenced yard. This generally means keeping your dog on a leash while walking in the community and in public areas. Allowing a dog to roam freely can create dangerous situations for neighbors and pets alike.

Please Pick Up After Your Pets

Pet owners are also responsible for promptly removing and properly disposing of their pet’s waste. When walking your dog, please carry bags to clean up after your pet. Leaving pet waste behind is not only inconsiderate to your neighbors, but it is also a violation of local ordinances.

The City of Houston ordinance specifically requires that any person in control of a dog or cat promptly remove and dispose of feces in a sanitary manner and carry the necessary materials to do so while in public areas.

We ask all residents to be respectful of their neighbors and do their part to keep our community clean and safe.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping make our neighborhood a wonderful place to live!
